I would inquire more into the statement. There are many deficiencies that can cause anxiety and depression. If your doctor feels that you are unhealthy (or if you feel that you are an unhealthy eater) then it may be worth getting a thorough blood work done to see if you have any deficiencies.
I think eating right can help with depression. And, if you are overweight you will probably drop some pounds by eating right, which in turn will reduce depression.
In saying this, I do not believe that anxiety and depression will just go away by changing eating habits. It may reduce symptoms, but not eliminate them. Also, I am not sure it is healthy for a doctor to make such a bold statement and would question if this is the right doctor to be treating you. You may consider finding a doctor that really understands anxiety and at least offers suggestions to backup a statement such as the one you mentioned. Perhaps you can put it back in his lap and request that he help you to develop an eating plan...just so you can understand his point of view...just a thought. |
