Hi georgia! I was trying to say something important here before australias "Monty Python" chimed in with his usual vague "lol" one liners.We are not alone but nothings getting out there and people at large seem as totally uninformed about these these issues as they are about politics until of course they strike home.
It's true that 200 years ago, people who were most certainly poor were seized and "warehoused" in mental institutions called "bedlam" for almost anything and admission was charged for the general public to come in and gawk and laugh at the antics of the mad as they played handball with their own shit and raved and rolled in the dirt.....the worst cases were indeed put in baskets hence the term "basket cases".
Thank god things are different in this enlightened age....we get prescriptions now for powerful and unpredictable drugs and get sent home to take them alone at night and sweat out the consequences on our own.... get to call the doctors ansering machine if we suddenly feel the urge to kill ourselves or run to the ER if our throats are closing and we can't breath due to allergic reactions? so glad it's now 2010?
My sister who got cruelly deserted by her third husband last summer down in Texas found a new boyfriend in her most desperate and needy state....it was soon apparent that he was dangerous and nuts too.She dumped him and in reprisal,he called a few of his friends at the police department...told them she was a drug dealer and a lunatic who had terrorist connections.The cops showed up at 2 am and trashed her apartment looking for drugs,they found her Lyrica and perchocets,zanax and lexapro and a little grass...dragged her out in a nightgown with no shoes on and threw her in a psych ward to be drugged and agressively bullied by arrogant asshole psychiatrists as she sobbed hysterically.She got a bill for 2,000 dollars from these same assholes and is now under government survalance as a possible terrorist suspect under bushes "patriot act"....yes,I'm so glad it's 2010 and not 5000 bc? S
