is there no one else out there taking propranolol, im i the only one. this just proves my point that they are not a long term aid for anxiety. (Mon Jan 12 8:21 2004)
Hia, I'm on 80mg of Propanolol a day for anxiety treatment. I've found that they've stopped my attacks getting worse, but not any better, so the docs put me on 10mg of Cipralex a day aswell as the Propanolol. Only been on them about 1 and a half weeks but hopefully they should work.
Anyway at least their's someone else out here on Propanalol, maybe we're the only 2 !!!
please help
been on propanalol for 3 years.
feeling really tired and out of breath.
does anyone have these side effects.
please help.
I took Inderal for 20 years because of high blood pressure and anxiety which caused heart palpatations and a rapid heartbeat. It was a most helpful drug for me. I could do about anything and quality of life improved. I would still be taking it but began to have some asthma like attacks although I had never had asthma. These attacks became severe in winter when the weather was very cold. I take another medication for high blood pressure and heart palpitations but still have some anxiety attacks occasionally. I think Inderal is great.
Taking propanalol now to help inhibit my migraines and stage fright (am a professional singer) seems good. Although I am feeling REALLY majorly irritable with people around me all of a sudden. Is that normal? (Thu Mar 11 22:04 2004)
Hi all, been on 80mg this past week of propanolol for anxiety, was previosly on trnquilizers (librium), much prefer the betablocker, keeps the panicks at bay and does'nt make me drowsy. (Tue Mar 16 13:21 2004)
I have used propranolol (40mg) once or twice a day (more if needed) for general anxiety attacks. (for 3 years) They seem to work great for me, I have an attack if I forget to take them, generally the only set backs are on Sunday or Saturdays when I don't take them at the usual time, I start to feel bad, take my pill then have to lay down for a bout 15minutes. Still, I love this drug, never thought that I could feel this good again. (Wed Mar 17 15:48 2004)
been on propanolol now for nearly a year thought i was dying before i took them. I suffered terrible anxiety and panic attacks which i no longer have. Although the tablets have helped i really think what helped more than anything was going to see a nurse and talking i would recemmend to anyone to talk to a proffesional it has really helped me. I am now in the process of coming off propanolol slowly and feeling like i used to before my anxiety 24/3/04
I am on 60mg la, and i felt good at first but now am feeling bad again. my blood pressure went down at first now it is climbing back up again. terrible dreams, nausea, headaches, short tempered, and a host of other things. anyone else with these problems?
I just tried propanolol for the first time. Stay tuned.
TO M Baillie:
Being tired and out of breath could be signs of LOW blood pressure. Maybe your Inderal dose is too high. Next time you feel that way, check your blood pressure. I once had major surgery and lost a lot of blood. Consequently, my blood pressure was low for a while until I could produce more blood. I felt exactly as you describe, but I was dizzy too.
I take Inderal LA 80mg per day for MVP. My insurance will not longer cover this medication, but will give me a regular prescription benefit for the generic. I have been told by pharmacies that there is no generic equilavent. Is anyone taking the generic equilavent to Inderal LA 80mg per day? (Mon Apr 26 18:35 2004)
I take Propanolol when needed as I have rare panic attacks a few times a year - great for this. 40mg a day as necessary my doc said. (Mon May 3 18:21 2004)
Hi I am on Propanalol 160sr for an overactive thyroid. I have only been using it for about 10 days.I have taken prop before as this is a relapse(not this high dose). I am going to try to stop it as I think the thyroid is calming with the treatment. My problem is I am also a past (2ys ago) anxiety suffer and still have my moments !I read on a web site that withdrawal has to be slow, which I dont know how to do on a 24 hour slow release tablet. The web site says that withdrawal symptoms of most drugs and propanalol are a mirror image of what it is trying to control. This is going to make it difficult to tell if we are still suffering or withdrawing. Most people suffer from anxiety again but it is just withdrawal symptoms. So if anyone is going through withdrawal hang on in there because it is most probably not anxiety. (Tue May 4 18:54 2004)
do you take the tablet every morning to prevent attacks or wait until you start feeling bad? (Mon May 10 5:12 2004)
My girlfriend has been on propranolol for the past year to help with anxiety attacks. We have just found out that she is pregnant with our 1st child and our doctor had advised that she stops taking them. She is really worried that coming off them so quickly will have some side effects. She has been feeling very tired with headaches and nausea for a few days and we dont know if this is withdrawel symptoms of just normal pregnancy feelings. Has anyone else experianced any side effects after coming of propranolol quickly?
I am on inderal la 80mg once a day for BP and have had many symtoms, lack of appetite, cold feet and much nausea! Any one else with these problems? How do I quit taking it. (Mon May 31 14:02 2004)
was on inderal for 4 months - had to get off because it CAUSED irregular heartbeats - week of weaning off was terrible! but here's my question - SINCE I began having irregular heartbeats with the Inderal they have continued - a lot! This was NOT a problem for me before I began taking it - anyone else experience this? Thanks.
hi. I've been on inderal LA 160mg once a day for
3 months to control anxiety and static ocular
migraine. This drug has been tremendously
helpful, removing most of my visual migraine
symptoms and removing my need for
tranquilizers--something I was becoming
increasingly worried about. Although i am always
sad to need a new medicine, I find this one to
work well for my problem. sure i have some
clumsiness and dizziness, but it is much better
than my anxiety and visual disturbances (Sun Jun 27 13:42 2004)
I had a horrible opposite experience with Proprananol. Back in 1993 I was prescribed it for migraines. I was given 20mg. in am and 20 mg in pm. I couldn't sleep at night and was in slow motion all day from it. I asked my doctor to take me off of it. He suggested 40 mg. pm only. So I tried that. My sleeping and daytime self came back to normal for a few weeks. Then I began having major panic attacks. Eventually I stopped the Proprananol got another doctor but it was too late the damage was done. I was experiencing daily panic for hours at a time. that led me to eventually take Zoloft which helped the side effect of anxiety from the proprananol. BUT that created a 25% weight gain in 2 mos. and IBS. I tried to taper off the Zoloft but had major withdrawls so I switched to 1/2 the starting dose of Celexa. I still can't taper off this one either. I curse Proprananol. If I never took it I wouldn't be the mess I am today. My seretonin all messed up, IBS and 30 lbs. heavier. And 11 years of this to boot! (Wed Jul 7 15:35 2004)
Oh, forgot a few things. Yeah as you can see I'm quite sensitive to medicine anyway but normally I have a rapid heart beat and I also have Mitral Valve Prolapse. When I was on Proprananol/INderal my heart rate decreased to 52 beats per minute. Normally it is 80-90 bpm. So I definately had some weird paradoxical effects. (Wed Jul 7 15:40 2004)
My mom was on propanolol for tremors (her hands would shake tremendously on occasion) for approximately 3 years. In the beginning I believe she was on 160 mg a day. It wasn't until last October, 2003 that we started to reduce the amount, since it didn't really appear to be helping with her tremors. In the time that she was taking propanolol the family noticed a considerable change in mood and energy. She no longer cleaned the house or cooked meals. She has now been completely off the drug since mid-May and we have noticed a little more energy returning. She also does not seem to be as down (we thought she was suffering from depression); however, we think now this may have been caused by the propanolol. Another note, my mother was not put on this drug for high blood pressure, although at her last doctors visit her blood pressure was elevated slightly for the first time in her life. Just as a note, my mom is almost 71 years old. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms or have had a relative experience any of these symptoms. Thanks. (Sat Jul 10 23:35 2004)
I have been taking propranolol for a few months now and I have gained weight. Has anyone else experienced this? is there anything that I could substitute for headaches. It does help my headaches like nothing eles does.
I am on Propranolol for panic attacks (80mg day). I have also been on Effexor for depression. I am now switching over to Nardil (an MAOI) as it is supposed to be much better than Effexor for panic and social phobia with depression. I am now trying to go through a washout period from the Effexor as it is supposed to be very bad news with Nardil. However, I am getting very bad withdrawals from the Effexor (rebound depression, panic attacks, dizziness, awful dreams, muscle aches, etc). Does anybody know if increased doses of Propranolol might help with the Effexor withdrawal symptoms? Anybody else have similar experiences? Any advice greatly appreciated!!
I take 5mg inderal when I begin building up anxiety, maybe twice a week at most. It's great, but does cause some irritability a few hours later.
Perhaps a lower dosage is better??
Hi All,
I have been on Inderal for right at 20 years now for MVP. For the most part I really put all faith in the drug. However, occasionally I have felt that my heart rate sped up after taking it, this is rare. Also, I feel like, as a recent post mentioned, that I'm irritable at times after taking it and show some mood swing. I am tired of feeling these periods of irritability. My Cardio tried me on other meds, but just couldn't tolerate them. Now wondering if I should go on Zoloft??? Does anyone know about SSRI's and Beta-Blockers, such as Inderal? (Sat Jul 24 8:06 2004)
I have been on Propranolol (40mg) for 5 yrs for panic attacks/violent heart rate.
I tried to come of it a while ago but starting getting massive shocks through my body.
Other than that I have had no bad experiences with it.
I was put on Propanalol (60mg daily) about one year ago for anxiety. I stopped taking it because it made me really tired, but it really worked for the anxiety. Now I've heard that many people take it situationally for big events that may cause anxiety. My question: if there is so much danger in stopping taking Propanalol too quickly, isn't there just as much danger in taking it intermittently? (Sun Jul 25 18:12 2004)
My doctor prescribed Wellbutrin AND Inderal. Said you can take them together. I stopped taking the Inderal because it made me exhausted, but the Wellbutrin makes me agitated and anxious. (Sun Jul 25 18:15 2004)
I was on Propranolol for only 3 months after being diagnosed with Hyperthyroid disease. The result of this disease was constant nausea and rapid weight loss (some effects are better than others). After being on the Propranolol my thyroid is back to functioning normally, so that is good. What is not good is that I am depressed, restless, and don't sleep for more than 5 hours a night. When I do sleep I have the most terrifying nightmares I have ever had. My doctor has taken me off the Propranolol as now my thyroid is under-producing, and the first two days I was off were a little rough, but they are slowly improving. (Mon Jul 26 16:29 2004)
I was a drug of propanolol family for blood pressure. Last Thanksgiving, my doctor doubled the dosage. Immediately after I can down with influenza (no connection of course.) But for months afterward, I could hardly go up stairs, couldn't exercise, my PVC's increased dramatically, and episodes of tachicardia increasely severly -- which was supposed to be prevented by propanalol. I thought all this was caused by the flu, but after 5 months when the symptoms didn't go away, I complained and had the doctor take me back to the original dosage. Within 2 days, all my symptoms disappeared. And my blood pressure barely went up! (Thu Jul 29 13:56 2004)
I have been on Propronolol for several months for performance anxiety. However I take it oon a more regular basis 20 mgs 2 or 3x a day. I'm surprised to hear that people are having so many problems. I find if I take 30mg or 40mgs, I become very relaxed and serene. I engage oin more conversation and I am much more talkative than usual. It is a very nice feeling and must be how people on Xanax or valiun feel but without the sedation. (Fri Aug 6 10:58 2004)
I have been taking Inderal for about 8 months for fast heartrate. I became depressed, had frequent headaches, was tired and had no energy. I am trying to get off this drug. Now have paplitations, fast heart rate, more then I did prior to taking it. Is this normal?
Have been on Inderal 40 mg in the morning and Listril 2.5 mg for two years for anxiety and slight high BP. Want to get rid of both the drugs as I can't sleep and feel achy all over the body and BP is still the same 90/130. Get nervous when I get my B.P is being taken. How do I reduce Inderal and eliminate it completely. I am 50 years and my periods stopped two yeaers ago. I am very upset as my hands are feeling weak.

i am having propanolol now and feels very relief
Hi. I started to take propantalol yesterday, when i had to go to the hospital for dizziness, lightheadedness, and my palse was 128, so they were concerned that it was too high. All my tests came back normal, but they just wanted to bring down my palse. Now my palse is 75. they still don't know what is causing this condition. I go back to the doctors next wed. Thursday) 9/3/04
It's 5:57 am and I just woke up after a terrifying dream. I've been on Inderal since April 04 for killer migraines and at first I thought I saw ants crawling on my desk at work. I told my doctor and she said it wasn't the meds. Since then I've had some pretty real dreams. Like the one I just had, I was living a house I haven't lived in in 20 yrs. with my son (who'll be 4 yrs. old Wed), my mother and father. I was in the living room and I hear my mom call my father up stairs. When he came down he was crying. My father doesn't believe men should cry so I knew it had to be bad. The only thing I knew it could be was my son, he was dead. Then I heard my mom start to sob. My father went into the bathroom and closed the door but I could still hear him crying and it got louder. I sung on the foyer floor and began screaming. I mean this was the child I've been trying to have for 7 yrs. and now he was gone and I wasn't there for him. I just kept screaming and then the tears started to fall. I looked up because I heard someone else’s cries and it was my grandfather sitting on the couch holding one of my son's toys. Thing is my grandfather has been dead since Thanksgiving of '98. I woke up crying and almost wanted to scream until I looked over to my left and saw my son sleeping peacefully. I had stopped taken the Inderal a few weeks ago because the migraines were gone and then they began again this week so I started taking them again. I think they are 60mgs. That is the only new thing in my body so I came on line and did a search for "Inderal, dreams" and this was the first site I found with "terrible dreams" in it's description. I just had to make sure I wasn't going crazy or was I having a vision (I have them from time to time but haven’t had one come true since I gave birth to my son.) Sorry to bore you but if there is anyone else out there who is having BAD dreams, just know it's not you. Contact me if you need to talk: YoungFamily00@aol.com. (Mon Sep 6 6:15 2004)
i have been taking inderal la, 60mg for about the last 6yrs. i take it for tremors. it works great for that. the tremors are still there, but not as noticable. i want to come off of this because in the last six years, i have gained thirty pounds. i continue to gain weight, but my doctor will not listen to me. if anybody knows of anything else, please email me at asara261@netzero.net (Tue Sep 14 15:09 2004)
I have a severe case of stagefright and have been prescribed propanolol (20mg tablets) by my doctor. However, he simply said "use as needed". Any thoughts on dosage? I'd really like to maximize the dose but want to be careful....It's my understanding that they do not have to be taken every day, just when needed. Any advice or similar stories would be appreciated!! (Wed Sep 15 22:11 2004)
I'm not sure what to expect. 4 weeks ago my DR changed by BP meds to Dyazide. 2 weeks ago I had an "episode", and had tremors since. Went to DR last week,BP and pulse very high.He added Avapro as secondary BP. He sent me to neurologist who ordered CT scan and put me on Xanax and Zoloft, and scheduled a stress echo cardiogram. Blood results came in with severe hyperthyroidism, added Inderal LA to the other drugs, and I am now trying to find a good endocrinologist.
I was prescribed 60mg dose of Propranolol as needed for situational aniexty. I am 40 years old 6'2'' 190 lbs. Is this the proper dose (Thu Sep 23 16:05 2004)
Hi, I have been on Propanolol for 6 months, and just recently reduced my dosage from 20 mg to 15, and then starting getting panick attacks again, so went back to 20 twice a day, which then made it even worse, now only taking 20 a day...I have been to the ER twice and am scared why I keep feeling like I have a huge rubber band around my head. It sucks. Any help, ideas??? I keep thinking I am having a heart attack, it feels like low blood pressure/dizziness majorily, especially when I am sleeping, it wakes me up...help
I just want you all to know how dangerous Propanolol can be. My beautiful cousin Karen who was only 31 DIED in April from Propanolol Toxicity (i have just received the autopsy report).
Please all of you read the contra-indications and the side effects of this drug. If you don't have them go to the drugstore/chemist and ask for a print out. I am most alarmed at reading some of your posts as some of the symptoms people are describing are what Karen described to me 2 weeks before she collapsed.
For Karen her migraines became much worse and she was having abdominal cramping, anxiety, extreme lethargy and insomnia and when she did dream she was having really vivid, bad dreams. She said she just felt so generally unwell that she thought she was going to die because she had been to the doctor and had tests and they couln't figure out what was causing it (VERY obvious in hindsight).
Don't rely on doctors to know everything because a lot of her side effect symptoms she was already experiencing from other medical problems so they just put it down to that. Please make sure you are monitored while taking this drug and be careful what dosage you take.
I have been on Inderal la for 8 years and it was great but now my doctor stopped it because I have a chesty cough like asthma. But inderal did work for my palpitations. (Sat Oct 2 8:01 2004)
I was recently diagnosed with MVP and my Cardiologist prescribed Propanolol 20 mg. am and pm but after reading this information I am afraid to take it
Good sex can solve all these problems.
Besides, its cheaper and doesn't have all the side effects. Also, it doesn't make your doctor or the drug companies rich, so don't expect them to recommend it.
i've been taking propranolol for some time now for social phobia. This drug is a life saver and my life is finally back to normal.I take 80 mg a day and i am suprised people are experiencing so many problems on the drug.
after 1 week of taking propanolol for migraines i've had eniough.i'm lethargic ,legs and hands are stiff ,very emotional ,feel like killing or crying.i reckon i'll try feverfew ,cant be any worse
I have been using propanolol for anxiety reduction and only when giving a speech or presentation. I use it perhaps once or twice a year with great results. I usually take 20 mg about 40 minutes before I'm expected to speak and it works like a charm with no significant side effects. I do feel a bit sleepy after the fact but far better to perform or speak well and in control and deal with a touch of sleepiness.
hi all all i can say is these tabs dont work i have had more headache since havein these tablets and now trying 2 come off them and side affect i am getting sickness diadiarrhoea and boy do i never want another prapanolol in my life
